At All Saints Primary School we are proud to include a wonderful nursery that is looked after by our qualified staff under the guidance of the Class Teacher.
We have now taken over the admission of the nursery children into our school from the Local Authority and children start in our main nursery in September. However, if spaces are available because we run a governor led nursery we are able to admit children the term after their 3rd birthday. This gives children a really good start to their education and prepares them for school life and the Early Years Curriculum.
The children learn through play in our great indoor setting and our newly developed outdoor area. They are taught and well cared for by our staff. They will be taught phonics, reading, writing, number and social skills through the Development Matters Curriculum which gives them the beginnings of a greater understanding of the expanding world around them.
Parents are able to use the 15 hours weekly entitlement from the government open for every child. They can also apply for the extra 15 hours (giving a total of 30 hours) all/part of which can be used to cover the time they wish their child to attend our setting. Extra hours over and above the weekly entitlement will be charge for in advance at the beginning of every month, including the half hour for lunch supervision. If required, a daily hot lunch can be provided at a current cost of £2.30 per day. Fees are agreed by the governing body and a contract must be filled in and signed by the parent(s)/guardian(s) before the child starts.
This is a school nursery class and as such operate during term time only.
Admission to the nursery class does not constitute a promise of a place in the Primary School nor does it preclude the admission of a child to any other Infant or Primary school in the area. The County Council still has authority over this.
When a place is available the school will inform applicants in the term before the child would start the nursery.
Application forms can be found on this website or requested from the school office:
If demand is very high, applicants may be unsuccessful and would be informed of this in the term before their child would be entitled to enter the nursery. They will then have the option of being placed on a waiting list. (This refers to those wanting to attend the term after their 3rd birthday).
Where there are more applications than available places for our main nursery in September the following criteria will be used to decide which children are offered a place:-
- Looked after children (as defined in the Education Act 2002 – Admissions)
- Those children living in the catchment area of the school
- Those children who have a sibling attending this school at the time of the application
- Children who live nearest to the school calculated in a direct straight line from the child’s permanent place of residence to the school
Application for free entitlement will be allocated before consideration is given to the allocation of paying places to comply with the Government’s Code of Practice.
Determining the choice of morning or afternoon place:
In terms of choice, a large amount of flexibility exists on when and which days can be used. Changes to hours must be notified a term in advance, in exceptional circumstances the school will consider personal circumstances and will endeavour to be accommodating.
Attendance of Nursery:
Parent(s)/Guardian(s) will be asked to bring their child(ren) to the nursery for a visit prior to the starting date to enable them to meet staff and familiarise themselves with their new surroundings.
Since places in the Nursery are limited, parent(s)/guardian(s) are advised that a poor record of attendance without good cause, may lead to their child’s place being given to someone else. Parents will be notified in writing about this.
This Nursery Admission Policy will be available for parent(s)/guardian(s) and has been endorsed by the Governing Body of the school, who will review it at periodic intervals.
The Nursery will abide by all school policies unless otherwise stated.
