FICTION: MYTHS AND LEGENDS
(Text Focus: Beowulf by Michael Morpurgo)
Pupils will be exploring the features of playscripts, focusing on a playscript version of The B.F.G. They will also look at adding adverbs in stage directions as well as thinking about powerful verbs in their writing.
During this focus, pupils will have opportunities to read a variety of engaging poetry, learn more about similes and metaphors as well as writing some poems of their own.
Pupils will enjoy this exciting story, which will be the focus for our work on Newspaper Reports and Instructions. They will think about tenses as well as how these different text types are presented.
After reading Beowulf, pupils will identify features of a legend, write in the first and third person as well as creating a mythical beast for their own exciting legend.
MULTIPLICATION AND DIVISION
LENGTH, PERIMETER AND AREA
Building on the work pupils started before Christmas, they will continue to learn their times tables off by heart and will begin to understand the links between multiplication and division.
Then they will move on to explore Length, Perimeter and Area of different regular and irregular shapes.
Pupils will learn about fractions and equivalent fractions as well as beginning to think about fractions as decimals.
Moving on from the focus on Fractions, Y4 pupils will continue to explore and deepen their understanding of Decimals.

EATING AND DIGESTION
Lessons will explore what sound is and how it is made, before giving the children the chance to investigate ho sound travels, how it can be blocked, how different pitches can be attained, and much more!
The 2nd half term will focus on eating, digestion and teeth in animals, including humans.
ANCIENT ROME AND ITS INFLUENCE ON STAFFORDSHIRE
|Pupils will be studying evidence of Ancient Rome still here in Staffordshire today, along with enhancing their map skills and their knowledge of our continent.|

|We will be extending our learning theme of ‘Ancient Rome’ to Italian artists. We will study their artistic styles in depth and attempting to recreate our own using these to inspire our designs.|
|History||ANCIENT ROME||There will be a strong emphasis on Ancient Rome this term and its impact on Britain. This will include life-style, where these influences originated from and the success of the Roman Empire across Europe.|

HOW DO CHRISTIANS REMEMBER THE LAST SUPPER
Over the course of this term we will be learning more about the Jewish faith and the significance of a Jewish synagogue.
As we approach Easter we will then be studying how Christian’s remember the events surrounding the last supper.
